💗 Reusable Perineal Ice & Heat Therapy Pack FAQs

What is a reusable perineal therapy pack used for?

A reusable perineal therapy pack is designed to provide both cold and heat relief after birth. Cold therapy helps reduce swelling and soothe soreness, while heat therapy can support comfort and relaxation during later stages of recovery.

When should I use cold therapy after birth?

Cold therapy is most beneficial in the first few days after birth, especially within the first 24–72 hours. It helps reduce swelling, inflammation, and discomfort following vaginal delivery, tears, or stitches.

When should I switch to heat therapy postpartum?

Heat therapy is typically used after the initial swelling has reduced, often a few days postpartum. It can help promote circulation, ease muscle tension, and provide soothing comfort during ongoing recovery.

How do you use a reusable perineal therapy pack?

For cold therapy, place the pack in the freezer until chilled. For heat therapy, warm it according to the instructions (usually in the microwave). Always check the temperature before use and place it inside your underwear for gentle, targeted relief.

How long should I use a perineal therapy pack each time?

It’s recommended to use the pack for around 15–20 minutes at a time. Allow breaks between uses to avoid overexposure to cold or heat.

Can I use a perineal therapy pack after a C-section?

Yes — while primarily designed for perineal recovery, therapy packs can also be used for general comfort. Some women use them to soothe abdominal discomfort (ensuring it is not placed directly on the incision unless advised by a healthcare professional).

Is a reusable therapy pack better than instant ice packs?

Reusable therapy packs are ideal for ongoing recovery at home, offering both hot and cold options. Instant ice packs are best for immediate, convenient relief, especially in hospital. Many women choose to use both as part of their recovery routine.

Are reusable perineal therapy packs safe to use on stitches?

Yes — they are commonly used to help reduce swelling and discomfort from stitches. Always follow usage guidelines and avoid direct contact for extended periods without a protective layer.

How many times can you reuse a perineal therapy pack?

Reusable therapy packs are designed for multiple uses and can be used throughout your postpartum recovery. With proper care, they remain effective for repeated hot and cold therapy.

Should I pack a reusable therapy pack in my hospital bag?

Yes — a reusable perineal therapy pack is a great addition to your hospital bag. While hospitals may provide basic options, having your own ensures comfort, quality, and the flexibility of both hot and cold therapy.

Great for daily use!!!

I call these my “Gina packs” and they have come in so handy. I’m currently carrying a very large child and the pressure is fierce. So every evening I sit on one of these and my goodness it’s so much relief. The sleeves that are included are just too time consuming to put on and take off every use or these would be a five star item. I cannot wait to use them after birth for downstairs pain and for breastfeeding pains! Definitely recommend.

Wonderful!

These were a far better quality than I expected, very nice packaging and can be easily cleaned. I would suggest hang drying the covers as they fit just right, If dried they may shrink and not fit around the ice pack. Other than that, They are fantastic! Great for after delivery. You can also warm them and lay them across your breast to help with let down if you're nursing. They make great hot/cold packs for back aches and boo-boos too 😊

Didn’t last

Worked good at first but didn’t last more than a couple months before the seals broke on the freezer bags and little balls went everywhere. I didn’t use them much and was not rough on them at all. Just not great quality.

I like the use of beads, which made them very comfortable and shape easily to the body. The beads also make it very fast to freeze and help it hold the temperature.I recommend them to anyone for any type of pelvic issues, surgeries etc. Also - great customer support. A+++

Would definitely recommend purchasing just in case you have postpartum perineal pain/discomfort. Would make a good baby shower gift too. I personally put a thin pad over the cover so that I didn't have to change the cover as often.

This is the best perineal ice pack package you’ll find online! You get 2 ice packs and 4 black socks/covers that the ice packs go into. All other websites only sell 1 ice pack, where as this has two so whilst you’re using one there is another backup in the freezer. Also has a freezer bag, I loved the packaging! I love that the sleeves/ socks/ covers are black so you can’t see any blood stains. 10/10!

These are better and more chilly for downstairs than brands like ‘body ice woman’. Buy this.

I have used these gel pads after all of my deliveries and since it’s been 10 years since my last one I needed to repurchase. I am due baby no. 3 in two weeks and have my gel pads in the freezer for when I get home from hospital. These are lifesavers for comfort and pain relief after a vaginal birth. They take down swelling and bruising I just couldn’t be without them! These ones are super cute too with a lovely bag to store them in and really soft covers for extra comfort. Highly recommend!!

Great item for mums with perineal trauma after birth. Stays frozen for long enough and a good price. Highly recommend.

I had a natural birth and experienced a second degree tear but not where the books said to massage e.g. perineum! I was in hospital for 5 days where the ward gave me cool sanitary pads with ice and lavender. I got my mum to make up some and put in the freezer however it did not quite work, the pads would defrost, I’d have to sit on a towel as they melted. I also had super frosty bits! I decided out of desperation to buy these and they were just amazing! I was suffering so much in the early days and these helped the pain and swelling so much. I didn’t buy in advance as I knew if I spent money on natural birth items, I would end up needing a c section! I would say if you have a natural birth, buy these immediately for your return home.3 covers were included that after each time I just washed in the sink with a little liquid hand wash and hung them up over the shower screen. They dried so quick and since they were black I couldn’t see any staining. To be honest I wasn’t bothered and it was the least of my worries!
