Mesh Postpartum Underwear (Australia)

We designed our Rubra Postpartum Underwear for the Rubra stage of lochia — the early postpartum phase when bleeding is typically heaviest during the first week or so after birth.

As recovery progresses into the lighter Serosa stage of lochia, where discharge usually becomes pink or brown and less heavy, many mothers prefer transitioning to our Serosa Postpartum Underwear paired with their choice of maternity pad.

Ninja Mama Serosa underwear is also ideal for mothers who simply prefer the flexibility of a separate pad-and-underwear combination rather than an all-in-one absorbent option, while still enjoying a soft, high-waisted fit that feels gentle and supportive during recovery

Loved by Australian mums for comfort, coverage and confidence after birth.

Recommended to Purchase 1-2 Packs of Rubra Underwear for the hospital and first days at home  and 1-2 Packs of Serosa Underwear for the convenience during the remaining Lochia stages.

💗 Postpartum Underwear FAQs

What is postpartum underwear and why do I need it?

Postpartum underwear is specially designed for after birth to provide comfort, support, and secure placement for maternity pads. It is softer, more breathable, and more flexible than regular underwear, making it ideal during recovery.

How long should you wear postpartum underwear?

Most women wear postpartum underwear for the first 1–2 weeks after birth, or longer depending on bleeding and comfort. Many continue using them until they feel ready to return to regular underwear.

Is mesh postpartum underwear better after birth?

Yes — mesh postpartum underwear is highly recommended because it is lightweight, breathable, and gentle on sensitive skin. It stretches comfortably over swelling and helps hold pads securely in place.

Can you wear postpartum underwear after a C-section?

Yes — postpartum underwear is ideal after a C-section. High-waisted styles sit above the incision area, helping to avoid irritation while providing gentle support during healing.

Do you throw away postpartum underwear after use?

Some postpartum underwear is disposable, while others (like Ninja Mama mesh underwear) can be gently washed and reused multiple times. This makes them a more practical and comfortable option during recovery.

What size postpartum underwear should I buy?

Postpartum underwear is usually designed to be stretchy and flexible, so it comfortably fits a range of body shapes. It’s best to choose your pre-pregnancy size, as the fabric will adapt to your changing body.

Can postpartum underwear hold maternity pads securely?

Yes — postpartum underwear is designed to hold maternity pads in place without shifting. The snug yet flexible fit helps keep you comfortable and protected throughout the day.

When should I start wearing postpartum underwear?

You can start wearing postpartum underwear immediately after birth. Many women pack them in their hospital bag to use straight away for comfort and support.

Is postpartum underwear more comfortable than regular underwear?

Yes — postpartum underwear is much softer and more forgiving than regular underwear. It is designed specifically for sensitive, healing skin and provides a more comfortable fit during the early postpartum days.

Should I pack postpartum underwear in my hospital bag?

Yes — postpartum underwear is considered a hospital bag essential. While hospitals may provide basic options, many women prefer bringing their own for better comfort, fit, and quality.

Served the purpose!

My daughter was in an accident and these did the job of helping hold her bandages in place without too much pressure on her wounded hips.

Great for recovery

Works as it should. A little too big for me. But should be great for after childbirth.

Wish they came in a bigger pack than five but was great for the first few days post birth. Much better than normal underwear.

These work ok

These work ok but not as good as the ones the hospital gives you. That is simple because a pad doesn't fit the best and these, for me, do not work with pads with wings. It is great that these can be washed!

Snug in the thighs…roll up

Given that this is advertised as “disposable” the quality of the product was very impressive. However, the sizing is limited to smaller figures. I’m a size 14 and they roll on my thighs making them tight and uncomfortable. Based on the sizing, I would only recommend if your thighs are not curvy. Other than that, I would definite recommend these because the quality is amazing…much much better than the hospital ones they give us. I’m disappointed because I’ll need to return these.

Better than the hospital ones

They're comfy overall but the thighs are pretty tight and don't stretch much. I had to cut slits so they wouldn't pinch me.

Not for petites

I thought these would fit because they are one size and stretchy . The ones at the hospital fit bit these are big. I am a XS or size 0 and these fall off my hips and around my butt.

I had abdominal surgery and decided to try these. They are so comfortable. No pressure on my wound. The fit perfectly without riding up the thighs or rolling down from the top like other high waist underwear sometimes does. They’re a nice breathable material yet thick enough for firm support. Even the nurses at the hospital were impressed and asked where I got these from so she could recommend it to other patients. Seems pricey but worth every penny.

I loved these, my only regret was not using them sooner, they were so comfy, held the maternity pad in place perfectly while I stayed in hospital, and I washed them and was able to continue using them at home while I healed. Only downsides are they are not absorbent at all, and fairly transparent.

Loved this product!!!!!!!Best thing to have in your hospital bag if you end up with an emergency c section. They are use and throw, so I was able to get half a day out of one....You cannot even feel them on you tummy.Only con is the amount of underwears and time in delivery... Wish they had a bigger packet and quicker delivery.... but not the end of the world🤷🏻‍♀️I would recommend this product to every mum who is about to head to a hospital.

These were a huge part of being comfortable post csection, I only bought one pack but recommend 2 if you can - super comfortable and no rubbing in any places.

Fabric is very soft and breathable. Elastic doesnt leave marks on the skin after wearing it for a full day. It does need a separate pad which sits correctly. Highly recommended 👌

Comfortable, easy to wash, dry super quickly, very handy postpartum and pads will stick to this material. Definitely worthwhile straight after birth.

I bought these for my elderly mother to use with a pad and she no longer has any irritation which she did with normal cotton underwear and pad. The material is lightweight and breathable and they wash easily in a bag in the washing machine. We have dozens and dozens of wears from them and only a couple have had to be thrown out so far. I have now bought replacement packages three times but only because it’s handy to have spares. I always wash them before first use out of the packet. I will continue to buy these as needed. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly comfortable and good quality. Not what I expected out of disposable underwear (you can wash and rewear them a handful of times). Really happy and would highly recommend to postpartum mums. Arrived quickly too.

Comfortable

I was recommended the product by my surgeon, despite the fact that I am a man, following surgery that required me to wear disposable underwear that provided ample support and had adequate stretch. Men's boxers were too loose and men's boxer briefs and briefs were too tight. These worked as expected and I am satisfied with the purchase.

Really comfy and washable

After having abdominal surgery that has had a much longer recovery time than I expected, I purchased these so that I would have something that would stretch over my belly button. These are perfect, comfy, WASHABLE (just washed them in the gentle cycle, no mesh bag, hung them to dry)- they were exactly what I needed. And they are stronger and more durable than the ones that you get in the hospital.

The band wasn’t too tight around the waist and the material took a few washes. Highly recommend.

Closest to hospital ones I’ve found

The best! Hands down out of all the similar ones I’ve tried. I had a pair left from the hospital and these were practically the same. These also come in a sealed bag that require the top be torn to be opened. The other ones I bought from other sellers could be opened and put back without you knowing. After surgery, I felt uncomfortable not knowing if they had been tampered with or not. Would buy again. Highly recommend!

Must have for after birth

These came in handy for after birth mommy care. They lasted me a few times every pair. Definitely a repurchase for my second child experience.
